Pepper Lunch @ George St. Sydney

Pepper Lunch is a franchise originating from Japan. We first came across it in Singapore based on an excellent recommendation from my friend David.

Waiting for food

It is basically a fast food chain but serves a healthy menu with a decent dose of meat and vegetables. The unique concept at Pepper Lunch is that the food is served raw on a hot plate and you do your own cooking.

We came across one branch in Sydney near Chinatown and decided to pay it another visit during the weekends.

Pepper Lunch with Beef

The menu at Pepper Lunch has tons of selection including salmon, beef, chicken, steak etc. There are some combo meals as well where you get to choose 2 different types of servings.

The GF opted for the beef which was about $10, can't really remember the exact price.

Took a quick shot before cooking the food.

Pepper Lunch with Salmon

I tried the salmon which was almost about $10. The attentive staff would ask you if it's the 1st time you're here. If you are, they'll give you a quick 10secs demonstration on how to cook your own food.

Hurry! Turn it over!

It comes in a hot plate with an instruction leaflet wrapped around it. All pepper lunch meals comes with a generous serving of corn.

The beef after cooking

The salmon after cooking

The method of cooking is actually pretty simple. First of all pick one of the 2 condiments, garlic sauce or sweet sauce. Sprinkle an ample amount of sauce on your food and use your spoon to mix the rice, corn and "meat" thoroughly.

Next, quickly turn everything over a few times to cook the food before the hot plate cools down. Then you're good to go.

Here's a video to show you how to cook the food.

Personally I prefer the salmon than the beef as the salmon has some crunchy-burnt bits and pieces here and there. Both dishes taste almost similar except for the "meat".

Don't get me wrong. Tasting similar doesn't mean they're not nice, I should say both taste similarly good. haha

Besides, it is a novelty to have to pay, and then cook your own food. haha
