Chapter 17. SIAM NIRAMIT

After the "special" dinner we hurriedly went on our way to the Siam Niramit. It was a daunting task to get a taxi or Tuk Tuk to ferry us to the location, which is a mere 15-20 mins drive from central Bangkok.

Nobody agreed to bring us there, probably due to our persistence to use the meter. We finally ended up in the back of a taxi who agreed to use the meter.

As it turned out he wasn't sure how to get there, which was bad news to us who were running late.

Siam Niramit brochure

Luckily the brochure we held in our hands had the contact numbers and the counters were still opened. We arrived at our destination after what felt like an eternity.

Siam Niramit is a world class stage show highlighting Thailand's historical heritage. We heard about it from Belinda on her show Teman.

Big Elephant outside

We were contemplating whether to go to Niramit or to the Calypso Cabaret, which is roughly the same price. In the end we decided to go to Niramit after reading excellent reviews.

Thai lady who got our tickets

The tickets cost us approximately 1,050Baht, which we purchased from one of the many tourist agent websites. The official price is 1,500Baht if you purchase them directly from Siam Niramit.

Entrance leading to the show

The duration of the show was 80mins and it was truly magnificent and amazing. There was a main stage and 2 semi-side stages which gave us a 270 degree view of the performance.

It showcased the history of the ancient Thai kingdom and its transition into modern times. There was justice, humour and a sense of romance, all the ingredients for a truly captivating show.

It's the 1st stage show I saw that had an actual river flowing on stage. Unfortunately no cameras or videography equipment was allowed into the arena.

Entrance to the village

After the show, we had a walk around the Siam Niramit grounds. There were many traditional houses, tribes, delicacies & traditional costumes to illustrate life in ancient Thailand.

Local delicacy made of Rice Flour, Egg & Coconut

We were supposed to arrive early at Niramit to walk around the grounds before the show. It might be a blessing in disguise we arrived late as there were fewer people after the show, making it much easier to move about and sightsee.

Happy?

Yeah, happy and contended

We definitely had a great time at the Siam Niramit. The breathtaking show was the highlight, incorporated with the various traditional setups on the grounds definitely made it a truly magical experience.

There is another cultural show at Rose Garden (Bangkok) but I'm not sure how that'll fare against Niramit.
