Leave it to the hands of the law

Was on my way for some grocery shopping when I spotted the cops blocking the roads. Apparently there was some sort of fire in the shopping center. But what has the cops to do with fires? Aren't they supposed to be capturing fugitives and fighting thugs?

"Don't move! It's the police."
"Put down all your weapons!"

Few weeks back one of the gf's colleague was mugged at knife point on the way back from work. The time was 8.30 pm. She was walking on a street that is moderately lit, but relatively safe from a personal point of view. It wasn't exactly bustling with life, but it was a main street nonetheless.

The thug creeped up on her from behind, pressed a knife against her and said, "Gimme your knife" Haha. He was either very humorous, or an amateur, a teenager by guess. After the ordeal, she made her way to the police station to make a report. No picture reconstruction, no promise of capturing the villain and no idea of what they're going to do, JUST A REPORT.

Till date no news had been heard from the police. I suspect "the report" is now filed in a cabinet and will stay put for the next 20 years. The suspect is still at large, probably rummaging for his next victim.

It feels just like Malaysia. The police here do not ask for "Kopi Lui", but apart from that, they seem to be just as lax and sluggish as the law enforcement back home. They must be distant cousins...
