Fuel Price Increase

Outrageous

I was out the other night when it was announced. All the petrol stations around Kuching were jam packed with cars, all lining up in hope of getting the last pump of old priced petrol before the 40% increase.

I'd have to say I share the same sentiments as everyone else. 40% increase is definitely too steep and the handling of the matter leaves a lot to be desired.

Everyone is aware of the ever increasing fuel price, but the bad news should be delivered in stages and not a sudden dramatic increase. The rakyat deserve better.

As we all should know by now, any increase in fuel price has a catastrophic chain reaction on prices of everything else. Few days before the fuel increase, everyone was complaining about the increment of (Fragrant Rice 10kg) price from RM30 - RM40. Now it cost more than RM50.

Price increase will be the least of our problems. Once the people beneath the poverty line are unable to support basic necessities such as food, clothes, education etc for their family, some would turn to crime.

We could well end up to be like Indonesia eventually, with another review of the fuel price scheduled in August. I've heard rumours the new price in August would be just 30cents cheaper than the actual fuel price based on USD per barrel in the States.

Fret not as the government had prepared subsidies in the form of road tax rebates? Hell what's the use of rebates when what the people need is instant cash on hand, to feed and clothe themselves and their families.

Will we be able to survive this adversity?
