Chapter 5. TIME FOR LUNCH

Feeling refreshed from the AC, we headed to our favourite shopping area in Bangkok, the Platinum Mall. Opening hours are from 10am - 7pm.

Platinum Mall

It has 6 storeys with each floor offering rather distinctive clothes. If I recall correctly 2nd floor is mainly selling shoes and the 5th floor is selling accessories.

The entire mall consists of Thai-run stalls where you can shop for shoes, bags, jeans, shirts, handbags, belts etc. There are so many varieties to choose from that you may suffer migraines as a result.

Prices aren't as competitive as Pratunam Market and varieties aren't as many as Jatuchak Market. However Platinum Mall offers unrivalled advantage in the form of AIR-CONDITIONING.

It is akin to taking half the cheap price of Pratunam, add half the variety of Jatuchak and put it all under one roof with super AC that just makes shopping a bliss.

Platinum Mall Food Court

Due to time constraints (only 2 nights in BKK), we could only afford to spend one afternoon in this shopper's paradise. 2 days is the ideal time frame, but proceed with caution as the shopping is highly addictive especially with the cheap prices.

But before we proceeded with shopping, we popped into the Food Court at Level 6 to refuel our growling tummies.

Tom Yum Goong - 75Baht (4/5)

The Tom Yum was excellent, as expected from the Land of Smiles. It's quite hard to put it in words, but the Tom Yum produced in Thailand is unrivalled in terms of taste.

It is authentic and the delicate use of spice is hard to match elsewhere. This is an example of Thai cuisine at its best.

Duck + BBQ Meat Rice - 50Baht (2/5)

Steed Pork Thai Noodles - 35Baht (4/5)

I noticed a lot of Thai people lining up at this particular stall to order this dish. It tasted much like our Beef Noodles but with pork.

The thick soup base blended well with the grass noodles (tang hoon) and the chewy pork balls added to the overall flavour.

Bird's Nest - 100Baht (4/5)

The bird's nest and shark's fin soup in Thailand is really cheap. So do indulge in them whenever possible.

Fresh Mango with Sticky Rice - 90Baht (5/5)

This is a popular Thai dessert which I personally adored. Do note that there are 2 stalls selling this fare at the food court. Go for the more expensive one as the sticky rice with milk tasted awesome with the generous servings of fresh mango. We had 1 & half fresh mango on our plate.

Satisfied

Total damage - 350Baht. Considering that the standard of living in Bangkok exceeds KL, it is money well spent for all the stuff we consumed.

Shopping awaits ....

With our tummies filled, we wasted no time as we hastened to the levels below to do our shoppings. ;p
