Chapter 4. BAIYOKE SUITE HOTEL

Baiyoke Suite Hotel

We chose this hotel based on excellent recommendation from my friend who's a frequent visitor. It is a 3 star hotel which cost us 1405 Baht per night, which I felt was reasonably priced.

Baiyoke Sky Hotel

It is located in the Pratunam area, a street away from it's sister hotel, Baiyoke Sky Hotel. The Sky is a 4 star hotel which happens to be Bangkok's tallest building.

Baiyoke Suite Hotel is right smack in the middle of Pratunam Market, and a street across from our current favourite shopping haunt, Platinum Mall.

Main Entrance

The entrance is a level below street level, where you'll need to pass the baggage handling staff before taking the elevator to the lobby at Level 5. The main entrance was swarming with about 7-8 staff, but they seem to be more absorbed in their own conversations rather than helping guests with their luggages.

Our first impression of the hotel from the outside was that it was quite run down and in need of some touch-up renovations.

Baiyoke Suite Hotel is located on top of a shopping complex that spans from Level 1 - 5. This small shopping complex also sells mostly textile and clothings for wholesale.

Main Lobby

Step out of the elevator at Level 5 and you'll be greeted with the main reception desk area, which is a stark contrast with the main entrance below. It has simple decorations with warm lightings and appears to be recently renovated.

I particularly adored the hanging criss-cross lights hanging above the desk. It is very unique and gives the whole area a sophisticated feel.

Living Room

For 1405 Baht, we'll resided in a Standard Suite, which has 2 compartments, mainly the living room and the bedroom. The main plus point is the huge living room which could be an entire hotel room in some hotels.

It comes complete with a dining table, sofa lounge, coffee table and a tv rack.

Bedroom

Step into the bedroom to get the whole feel of how gigantic the room is. I think you can fit a family of 8 easily.

In my humble opinion, the decoration of the room is sadly quite old fashioned. Notice they use the same patterns for the curtains and bed sheets? Big No No!

Other side of the room

Overall the condition of the room is slightly old, the carpets were in dire need of refurbishment. The wooden furnitures around the room had also seen better days.

It is slightly filthy especially the stained carpets. So if you're a clean freak who needs to be in a totally clean environment, this is definitely not for you. However it was still tolerable for us.

Bangkok City

The greatest thing about Baiyoke Suite Hotel is the locality. You can tons and tons of shopping alleys and areas for the young and old, from the cheap to the expensive and various eateries ranging from food stalls to restaurants.

It is also easily accessible to other parts of Bangkok via Tuk Tuk or Taxi. Do bear in mind there aren't any Sky Train (MRT) stations in the vincinity.

But I wouldn't call that a drawback as it is actually cheaper to take the metered Taxi than the Sky Train if you time your trip well.

Taking all factors into consideration, Baiyoke Suite Hotel is definitely value for money, if you don't mind that it's slightly run down and a tad filthy.
